Nexus phone owners, how are you liking it?

What's up guys and gals,

I'm still rocking the iPhone 5 that I've had since launch day. Considering making the move to Android for my next phone cycle, after I see Apple and Google's offerings later this year. Specifically, I'm looking at Google's Nexus phones. The Nexus 5X and 6P look terrific. Whether you are the owner of the 5X, 6P, or an earlier Nexus device, my question to you is how are you liking it? Even if you are rocking a different Android phone than the ones mentioned, please chime in!

I like my 6P a lot ... But I'm still having issues with battery life. Getting maximum of 3.5 SOT since 6.0.1 and I've reset it all up a few times but to no avail.

It wouldn't be so bad if i could enable power saving mode however stock androids power saving mode is awful, turning buttons and status bar red.

Other than that I've no other issues and is a great solid device. Great camera and i find the fingerprint scanner great.

I've really enjoyed the 6p this time around. I bought one near launch but returned it. I don't think I gave it enough of a chance. I've really gotten used to it now. In contrast to @MRU I've been getting a solid 5hr SOT which was a big surprise to me after after android phones I've used in the past. Except for trying to find earplugs that can control calls, I have nothing negative to report

Coming from an iPhone, I think you'll appreciate the Nexus as your first venture into Android. They share similarities but with the flexibility that Android allows

Disclaimer: I am not a Nexus/Android user but I recently tested a Nexus 6P out before deciding on an iPhone 6S plus for my next phone.

From an iPhone 5 you'll likely notice:
Better battery life
Fast charge time
Screen quality
Equal build quality
Better camera quality
Fast OS with little to no lag/stutter
Fingerprint reader is fast and accurate

Since you seem to keep your devices for awhile (as per you mentioning as having an iPhone 5 since launch day) I wouldn't recommend a 5X as it has a slower processor and less RAM than the 6P. Also something to mention, in Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) Google enabled encryption on by default and I've read the 5X can lag sometimes due to this. However on the 6P I tested I didn't notice any lag at all on the device.

As far as Screen on Time (SOT) I was getting at least 5 hours but I don't use a lot of notifications on my phones or widgets that constantly update or use my location.

From an iPhone 5 either phone should be a huge upgrade though.

I got rid of my Nexus 6P. I couldn't take some of the weirdness (inconsistent battery life, bluetooth was super wonky, LTE constantly cut off to the point I needed to restart the device).

I still don't love iOS, but the iPhone is still all around the best device otherwise.

Actually now that you mention this, I did have an issue with LTE on the Nexus 6P. A few times I would be out of the house trying to get a data connection only to realize I didn't have one, so I had to put the phone into airplane mode and then out of airplane mode and it would then get an LTE connection. Since I have WiFi at home I never noticed this until I went out somewhere.

It sounds like everyone that has either tried or owned one of the new Nexus devices either had a generally positive experience, or mostly positive experience. I remember the days when Android was nearly guaranteed to be subpar to iOS. My first smartphone ran Android 2.2 as a matter of fact. Of course, fast-forwarding to now, Android 6.0 (is it 6.1 now?) is a completely different animal.

As noted by @AustinIllini, it's possible iPhones are still generally the all-around best devices. However in my case, I've grown a bit bored of iOS, and Apple's services pale in comparison to Google's. It'd be great to have Google services integrated into the OS. I'll keep an eye out and see what Apple and Google both offer later this year. If Google takes tighter control over manufacture of the next Nexus phone, as well as tighter control over Android updates from other OEMs--both of which they are rumored to do--it will be an interesting future for Android indeed.

Well said. The reality is, google services are far and away the best on android, but when it came down to it, the 6P was a great phone that wasn't for me.

I found iOS boring as well which is one of the several reasons I wanted to move to a Nexus device. But now that I'm on a 6S plus there's additional small things I like such as the icons rotating when going from portrait to landscape mode. 3D Touch is actually a lot better than it sounds and I used to think it was gimmicky. Also I started my new iPhone from scratch and I'm only installing things that I need not random apps that I've installed over the many years of being an iPhone user.

As far as the Google services, I don't think there's anyone that would argue that point.

I'm curious to see what new features/functionality both iOS and Android will bring and the new hardware.

Ok yeah, switching to Airplane mode was annoying to me, but if that didn't work that would be way worse. Also I should clarify, I didn't even have 3G. But I could still send and receive texts. But airplane mode trick worked for me, so while annoying, it fixed it for the time being.

I still have the original Nexus 5 as a backup phone which runs Marshmallow very well, although I don't push it much.

I've tried the 6P but it wasn't for me - mainly because I find stock android bland. I prefer TouchWiz, especially on larger screens, where things like split screen are viable. And, although the 6P finally gave a Nexus a decent camera, I have nothing good to say about Nexus stock camera software. In fact, I'd go as far as saying it's an embarrassment. Battery life is also a bit hit and miss in my experience.m but much depends on your usage and location (I just know comparatively the Note 5 yields better results).

I tend to keep Samsung Androids (camera, build, battery life, TW) or iPhones (build, battery life, reliability) over all other models. You should probably try the 6P though as it's the phone of choice for many.

I had a 5X and sold it after a month. Battery life was average at best, but the slowness of the camera was simply unbearable for me. If you use your camera at all, skip the 5X.

As I owned both, I think the 6P is a lot better. It's a little steep price wise relative to the 5X, but it is worth the extra $. Dual speakers, some artificial OIS for the camera, amazing camera, Super Amoled QHD screen, decent battery life, clean software, band 12 LTE, wifi calling, carrier flexibility, nexus imprint, etc. Best value flagship out there.

The 5X is a nice little device. Sure, the 1080p display is nothing to go on about, but it gets the job done. Great camera, nexus imprint, very slim profile, USB Type C like the Nexus 6P, solid battery life, etc.
