time for me to get a new streamer. looking at fire tv or nexus player. both have advantages but fire tv has an extra gig of ram and ethernet, while the neus player has a slightly higher cpu. i heard netflix got updated and soon will be bundled with voice search for amazon. which should i buy and why? and other boxes comin out or any refreshes for roku or atv that can compete?

Of those two, I'd personally choose the Nexus player for the casting capabilities as found in the Chromecast. Otherwise, they seem to offer generally the same functionality and features.

I have a fire tv and it is great, it is a killer Xbmc box. Another to consider is the fire tv stick that is coming out later this month. It is basically a fire tv in the form of a chromecast but has 1 gig of ram compared to the fire tv's 2. It is only 39 bucks

I went this route b.c it is $19.99 if you have prime. Between the fire TV and nexus player I would pick the nexus. The voice search is sure to be better. I also would think mirroring would work if you have a android phone.

Of those two, I'd go Nexus player. Same reasons as already mentioned, plus I expect Android TV to grow more as a platform and ecosystem over time.

However, the lack of an ethernet port is an annoyance. So I'm personally waiting for alternative Android TV boxes to be released.

In my opinion roku makes the best streaming devices out of them all , they are basically the original company of these kind of products . I doubt these streaming devices are going to be around in a year or two . Most tvs sold today even the lower end tvs are becoming smart tvs . Also gaming consoles and a lot of blue ray players have smart capabilities . I just do not see the point of these devices unless you do not have any smart device .
