I canceled my cable. My wife and I use iTunes subscriptions and netflix to watch tv and the free ota channels. I have a appletv and I plan on selling it and buying a new Mac mini to hook up to my plasma for the upcoming NFL season. I was planning on using the NFL game access option and getting video and audio. I have 2 questions

1. How good is the video, will the Mac be able to handle the website?

2. Also, is there a way to stream the video or the audio from my Mac to the iPhone while I am out and about?
Thanks

The answers somewhat depend on which NFL streams you're talking about:

NFL.com in North America:
The quality of the official NFL streams is impressive, depending on your bandwidth. The new mini will be able to handle it just fine.

There isn't any way to stream it to an iphone that I can think of, since it uses Silverlight or Flash for the streaming, but there wouldn't be much point to streaming it to your phone as the regular season games are only available the day after the games, so you can watch them whenever your schedule permits.

NFL.com outside of North America:
If you're outside North America, you can get the streams live. No iphone option that I'm aware of, unless you jailbreak and install Flash or Silverlight.

If you're using a proxy/VPN to Europe to get the live streams, then the quality will depend on the speed of your connection to Europe. I've thought about trying that, but thought the latency might kill the quality.

DirecTV Superfan
If you've been able to get DirecTV's superfan stream (via a DirecTV subscriber or by itself if you live in Manhattan), then the quality is quite good, depending on your bandwidth. Yes your machine is up to it and yes you can stream it to your iPhone via an app they have.

Thanks. I missed the fact that only the preseason games are streamed live. That's no help....... :(

I guess I'll see which apps support NFL game streams for my iPhone.
