Nice phone that is NOT iPhone?

I was thinking yesterday about if I really needed an iPhone. And the response I kept getting was "no, not now." I mean, I want an iPhone eventually, but I think it's too expensive and just too much of a phone for me right now. What is a nice phone that is on the AT&T service? I was thinking the BlackBerry Pearl or maybe waiting for one of the new 4LTR series phones (the SCPL or the RAZR 2). What do you guys think?

If you are looking at the blackberry pearl, than why not would you consider the iPhone if you need something that does smartphone like things.

Besides price.

Well, because I would just need the phone for texting and calls, and maybe a bit of email.
Not to mention the Pearl is $150 and the iPhone is $600.

This is not really a general AT&T cell phone forum it is an iPhone forum. You might have better luck on a cell forum for at&t.

I'd say either a Treo or a Blackberry, especially if you text a lot, I prefer the Treo, sure it isn't as pretty as the iPhone but my wallet is a bit heavier while I wait for v2 of the iPhone.

Well, I just need a phone right now that does the things I explained. And I've never really taken a look at the Treos... are those nice? I mean, I want an iPhone eventually, but right now $600 is alot for a phone for me when I don't use mine a bunch...
