Nicole Kidman in "Fur"

Well I am bored and have had these photos for about a month now. They were filming "Fur" with Nicole Kidman and Robeert Downey Jr. in my back courtyard.

I have several pics with my 2 Megapixel POS Nikon Camera. Sorry for no great shots, but it gives you an idea of how close I was. We had to ask the Assistant Director if we could grill that night because of the lighting and smoke. He said, "just live your life as normaly as you can". They had over 10 semi-trucks with panavision to lots of very upscale trailors parked all along the streets. It was at my father's place on west 107th street in NYC. If you have never been on the set of a major production (going for an oscar) then you should imagine being on the set of movies such as "A Beautiful Mind" and "The Hours". Very, very, cool. They took 10 hours to set up and film a short scene with Nicole looking down at a big book with photos in it. She plays an essentric (can't spell) photographer that commited suicide in 1971. A little off topic but I thought it might help. A great tip I learnt at MRF, can't remember from who but anyways, right click on a word you're typing in Safari (if you're using Safari) and click on Spelling then Check Spelling as You Type

... She plays an essentric (can't spell)...

It'll give the classic red lines under misspelt words. I love this as my spelling, aint's nots so grates.

it looks that way, but no, I was actually very still for the over the fence shots, my camera is just not good in low light and it was a pretty hard shot to take with a 2 megapixel camera at night. A couple of these my brother took, such as the piniata on the floor (by accident obviously). I didn't use a flash most of the time because I didn't want to piss of the crew by having bursts of light in their film . The camera does far better in the daytime from far away. Everytime I went for a picture I had to make shure the sound guy and lighting guys weren't looking towards me. Once I lift my camera over that fence I am only about 10 feet from the deck and I didn't want to be a distraction if you know what I mean. Plus it was kind of stupid looking, if I was working with crew I wouldn't put up with some kid popping up and down with a camera. By the time my dad had got back from the drugstore with real film for his nice pentax she was done with the shot. They shot from 9pm-5pm. But the crew arrived at 8am and got done setting up at about 8pm. I was in sitting on a bench next to one of the trailers when a small limo pulled up. She jumped out and her bodyguards were already there guarding her. She went into her trailer for an hour, her personal assistants popped the trunck stuffed with shopping bags, I saw one with an apple logo on it too! We went back to the apartment and came back later and saw her finally come out in character. She walked all different and looked like she did in "the hours". They then put her in the limo to cross the street and let her out. There was California license plates everywhere. A few range rovers, bmw's, and mercedes parked along the street. I saw "kettle of fish" being filmed up the street with matthew modine the week before. I also saw "inside man" by spike lee being shot down in the financial district where my dad works. And we saw a few celeb's in SoHo near the Apple Store. I usually don't care much anymore about celeb's but to see so many it was kinda crazy. Later that week Nicole went to them eminem concert down at the madison square garden and was seen in the front row grabbing her crotch (strange I know, it was in the NY post). I wont keep boring you with my findings, but just imagine being that close to one of the top actress' for that long.

This summer they were shooting a movie with Jennifer Garner in my alley. It took them about 3 days to set up. They turned my lane into some kind of overgrown forest. It was weird.

It really cool though how much work goes into what ends up being 10 seconds of film. They can spend a whole day just trying to get one 1 minute shot right.

On a related note, they turned my neighborhood into a winter landscape with fake snow and all that for Ben Affleck's Reindeer Games.

Now I know why movies cost a fortune to make. They take forever to do the sets and lighting. It was pretty cool in the beginning, but it got way damn boring as the day progressed. It's all those union workers. They stretch the days out to give themselves longer employment. Because if I made a film, I could get it all done in 2 weeks of principal shooting.

that's cool, but good films take time. Union workers do drag days out, but I don't think a film shot in 2 weeks would rival a 2 year production. "Fur" isn't supposed to be released until late 2006 around December. And the shots I linked to on imdb took place somewhere else. There is also some shots on a queen's beach. let me look.

She was in character and I didn't want to distract her. Some people yelled "hey nicole" and she waved. If I was in her shoes I wouldn't want to be recognized every 10 seconds. I didn't see any Paparazzi, but someone had there video camera going from a window the whole time. The one time I don't bring my sony handy-cam with me this happens. I brought it with me when I went to San Francisco, but I only brought a backpack this time and couldn't fit it in. Sorry for the let down, but just check out the links on the imdb.com forums about "Fur" and you will find lots of quality shots.

Chances are she wasn't wearing real fur, due to PETA. She would look nice not matter what she wears.

I disagree with you on that. Yes its cool to meet celebrities but they are in the end just normal people like you and me. Especially an actor/actress, they haven't done something extraordinary for the world which would make me proud to have met them.

I would say they are a little more abnormal. Becoming a celebrity like Nicole Kidman means they'll never ever be able to live a "normal" life. Look at someone like Michael Jackson, that's like a really extreme example.

I agree they aren't any more important than the person off the street, but their celebrity status means a level of respect that ordinary people don't have.

You are correct they do all their normal activities of daily living the same as the rest of us. They just happen to be in the limelight. I have no interest in meeting the current crop either. My dream would have been to meet Lucille Ball, I consider her to be a class act. She did her job and did it to the best of her ability.
