night mode for iOS maps

is there a way to get iOS maps to automatcially go into night mode?

None that I am aware of and I've looked. It's based on GPS location data (i.e., you can't set your clock to a time period where it would be nighttime) and you have to be in navigation mode (turn by turn directions). It doesn't switch on in Follow Me mode.

We were coming thru Atlanta Friday from Gatlinburg and it was dark but maps was still in day mode. I got my wife to end maps and redo and it went into night mode. But that is a lot of work in 8 lane traffic just to get into night mode. It seems like the camera could detect headlights or something to switch it automatically.
