Normally I wait a while to update my iPhone when a new version comes out, but last night I couldn't resist trying the new Night Shift feature on my 5S so I installed 9.3.1.

What a difference, it's so much easier on my eyes late at night. Normally I would have turned my brightness down all the way, and even then my eyes would feel strained after a short amount of time so I'd find myself turning my phone slightly sideways and use the view angle to direct more of the light away from my eyes. Now I run Night Shift just slightly towards the warmer side of the slider with the brightness all the way down and and it's very comfortable on the eyes. A little adjustment is needed to get used to the hue at first but it wasn't a big deal for me at least.

I'm not sure I buy into the "better sleep" marketing just yet, it's early to tell, but it sure does make it easier on the eyes in general. I wish my iPad mini had the same function now.

Thank you Apple for a relatively minor, but very welcome feature.

I like it, but for what it's worth f Lux has been doing this exact thing for ages on all manner of Apple devices (not just 64 bit) and Apple was actively locking them out.

So I guess congrats to them for implementing someone else's idea after knowing about it for years.
The idea has been around for a long time, f.lux was just one implementation of it. It's like a word processor that has been around before Word or Pages or any other ones that are still coming out to this day (i.e. Microsoft or someone else doesn't own the idea or had it stolen from them just because they might have had their implementation of it earlier than someone else).

It is great, I just wish it still worked while the phone was in Low Power Mode. I hate having to pick between the two.
You should be able to get Siri to enable Low Power Mode while still retaining Night Shift.

Fair enough.
And to apples credit, f.lux at least on the desktop tends to occasionally pop colours when switching programs. Night shift has so far been pretty seamless.

Mercedes Benz offered ABS brakes in its cars since 1978. Should we roll our eyes at other car companies that added the feature to their cars many years later or be grateful they too now had an additional safety feature?

Can it be both?

To get night shift to work in power mode turn on low power mode and ask Siri to turn on night shift.

Heaven forbid anyone criticising Apple for using an age old Jail Break Tweak ;)

Not the first time they've implemented a new iOS feature that's had a remarkable resemblance to an already out there tweak. :)

Yep!

It's a nice feature but the slider in the mid makes the display terrible, I set it at almost "Less yellowish". Anyway the display temperature is very different from iDevices to iDevices...if you look at an iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 4 or iPhone 6 and 6S I bet you will think that one has Night Shift enable also if it's not :D

that used to work but doesnt work anymore for me. Siri will try to turn off low power mode. And manually going night shift and using siri to turn on low power mode will kill night shift automatically
