Night shift (or Flux as I habitually call it) is nice to have in the hours before bed.

Since the new arrival to iOS (finally) it appears to have a warm welcome from users.

My personal setup includes a TV in my room and my laptop is plugged in so the TV is my monitor (and I'm sure many people do this as well)

At night before bed, the TV can be too bright and too "blue" so using Flux is great when watching your shows while falling asleep to a sleep timer.

Of course some may argue that the image color is important when watching videos on your TV, which is true and I agree 100%.

However, when going to sleep and you're not too concerned about the exact colors it sure is much better to have this feature than having to adjust the settings via the TV interface (brightness, color, back light) as it can be very annoying to do, plus you have to reset them again for the daytime.

Would you use Night Shift on your Apple TV?

What's the point, most modern tv's have various picture mode settings so why not just set one of them for desired night time viewing.

Because even on my modern TV, I can only set one of those selections to what I want, and the others are set in stone...
It would be very nice to be able to have it on to make the light less harsh from the TV.
I also would want this to be paired with a sleep timer function, because sure I can set it on the TV, but that doesn't turn off my ATV nor does it make it stop playing sound through the bluetooth speakers since its on.

I think you might be missing the importance of the yellow color shift that flux and night shift provide.

Why not just turn down the brightness of your iPhone or iPad at night?

Because it's not the same effect, and this is the reasoning behind having it on your tv as well.

I usually turn off f.lux or nightshift if I'm watching a movie or tv show on the computer or smartphone. When color of the content matters, I don't want the color shifted. It's appropriate for reading emails, browsing the web, and the like. In my opinion, it's not proper for video content.

That said, I would welcome the option. I would just keep the option off.

Heck yes I'd love it as an option, and on the Watch as well. Your eyes do tend to do their own white balance thing to compensate mostly. My daughters (college ages) laughed at me when I introduced them to Flux a while back. Both of these night owls retracted their comments and love warm color at night. I was just thinking that all TV's should just add this as an option, Apple needs to push it to all of their devices. I'm sure many would grow to like it, and those that don't can turn it off.

I'm sure film and TV show makers would looooove this about as much if Apple introduced a "double tap remote to zoom and remove black bars" feature or "edited for content / family-friendly" versions in their store.

I like the feature on iOS for text based stuff, but the idea of it for television makes me wince. Mess with your TV picture settings all you want, but the consumer would be wrong in this instance and content creators would be right to express annoyance.

I wouldn't want Night Shift but I really a night/dark UI mode. The white is just way too bright in a dark room. Infuse did a really nice job with adding one in their latest version.

I'm of the opinion that, even if there's scientific validity to the whole thing, it means far less on small screens than on large (less light = less impact). So, the potential for Night Shift making a meaningful impact is greater for Macs and Apple TV, rathe than iPhone (Night Shift for Watch would be a total joke).

I doubt I'd use it, if it was available - I dislike the change of color balance, and there are plenty of other things I could do to improve the quality of my sleep (that I don't do). But, I think it should be available for those who want it. Others are right, though - it's best that it be available on the TV itself, as Apple TV is only one of a number of potential sources feeding that TV.

Along with a couple of users here, I would really like to have the dark (nay, black) motif back. I've been an Apple fan since my fifth grade in the 1990s, and this is the first dramatic change to an Apple interface that I wish they'd just forgone.

Also, what happened to the screen savers? They used to have two different sets one for the day, one for night. Now we have one that's a straight shot at the sun which is incredibly bright in a dark room.

This is old but yeah I was an option to enable Night Shift on my ATV. I have noticed my sleep is better when I avoid bright white or "blue" light at night. I think as long as they make the color change very gradual and slow I probably would not even notice.

Absolutely! I think it’s a long overdue feature. Why not provide the option to using customers. Personally I would enable it, my eyes have high light sensitivity, especially at night, nightshift has eased screen viewing for me in the dark.
