As a strong word of caution, I was happily running my hacked phone on 1.1.1.
After reading many reports about the "easy" update to 1.1.2 using Octoprep
(via Installer app), I installed Octoprep and updated to 1.1.2. When the iPhone
rebooted, I was left with the stock springboard with the Installer app icon.
Assuming I had to re-install everything, I noticed that they were shown as
already installed. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, rebooting, ect - no luck.

I downgraded to 1.1.1, iPhone remained in restore mode. Following the instructions
to install and run INdependence (to boot out of DFU mode) it wouldn't work because I
was running iTunes 7.5. I deleted iTunes and all associated files, and installed
iTunes 7.4.2. However, I still got the message saying 7.5 was installed.
(with both the current version and latest beta version of INdependence)
Next, I ran the INdependence MobDev tool. Running the tool gets you to this screen:

After extensive searching, I found a copy of this file hosted on Rapidshare. I downloaded
the file, and tried to navigate to it, but the file does not highlight - it can't be selected.

So far I have wasted the better part of two days trying to get my phone back
to where it was with 1.1.1 with all of my apps, and am seriously regretting what
has turned into a colossal, time-wasting nightmare.

FWIW, I'm on a Macbook with Leopard 10.5.1 and iTunes 7.5

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated...

Update: Problem solved (link)

I'm posting a followup in hopes that it might save someone a lot of exasperation.

The solution to the problem was given by user danwarne in this thread (post #23).

Hopefully this will be helpful to others...

Here's what he said. It's a life saver.
If you use the MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework file downloaded from Rapidshare, you need to rename it to MobileDevice.h before you try to select it using the Independence MobDev tool.

Don't ask me why this crucial step isn't mentioned in the instructions... took me a lot of trial and error to figure it out. I finally figured it out by searching the Macintosh HD for "MobileDevice" and noticing that the one that is actually installed by iTunes is MobileDevice.h
