Hi everyone..

I was wondering what everyone thinks of Nik Software's Viveza plugin for Aperture and Photoshop. I was looking at the video demonstrations and it seems pretty impressive. It is a little pricey and was wondering if there are techniques that I could use to achieve a similar result without the plugin or too much effort, or maybe if there is different software that performs similarly and doesn't cost as much.

Thanks!

I think it is an amazing piece of technology. Try the demo. I bought it and like it a great deal. For example, I was able to reduce the brightness of the sky behind my child's head. The sky behind the strands of her hair were dimmed as well. Try that with just Photoshop.

Of course one could do the same with Photoshop. But you'd have to learn about selections, channel masks and so on. What this does is reduce the amount of time and skill required.

I think that's the point he's trying to make.
