A friend just asked me about the Nike+ kit for iPod Nano which I have, just sent her the link and it shows it on a Touch.

Is this app out yet?

Just found out it does not even work with iPhone and no app store app is required, looks like im stuck using my old Nano still :-(

The iPod Touch has the receiver for the sensor built-in to the device. The iPhone does not. I suspect the plug on the iPhone is not compatible with the one on the Nano.
