Nikon d1 vs Nikon d40

Nikon d1 vs Nikon d40. Which camera would take better photos? An yes i know the Nikon d40 has a limited selection of lenses, because of the Af-s mount.

If you're looking at a D1, why aren't you considering a D50 if you put a bit more weight on IQ or a D70s if you favor control?

D40, no question. Ya, you won't be able to have the same lens selection, but the image quality is years apart (literally).

I would say skip the D1 and look for a D70s, D50 or for a little more you can score a D80. Adorama has factory re-furbished D80 bodies for $589 at the moment so that may be an option. If you can live with a limited lens selection and smaller size, then the D40 would probably be good for you.
