Nikon D40 & Lens - is this a good deal?

Good day everyone,

I promise, I won't ask "as a Canon Powershot G7 user I want to buy my first DSLR - I have a budget of about $600 and wondered if the Nikon D40 was my best option" because I know it drives you crazy to read the same question for the 9,367th time.

So, just wanted your opinion on this deal - the Nikon D40 + AF-S DX 18-55 mm Lens. ($665/e453)

Bear in mind these are European prices ...grr.

Do you reckon it's an okay deal with that lens?

A Dutch shop is selling the D40X with 18-55 for €564

I don't know if this is possible for you but Amazon has a great price on the D40 with an 18-55 and a 55-200.
