I was under the impression that Mac OS Sierra supported D850 RAW files but it's still not showing thumbnails and won't open the RAWs, any idea why this is? All updates are up to date.

Hi.

Just googled "apple camera raw support sierra". Looks like D850 isn't on the supported list yet.

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT207049

It is supported on High Sierra

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT207972

Sorry.
Ahh, I must’ve looked at high Sierra, thanks.

I’ve put off upgrading to high sierra due to issues with something or another, I forgot what it was now but it caused some bad performance issues I believe. I can’t remember whether it was with certain MBP’s or lightroom. I’ll have to look into it again and see if it’s been fixed and if so upgrade.

I wouldn't expect Apple to ever add D850 support to Sierra, so until you're comfortable with updating your OS (I'm not; I'm still on Sierra) I would suggest that you try using the Adobe DNG Converter to convert the D850 NEFs to DNG and then see of Photos will swallow them.

Thanks, why wouldn’t you expect Sierra to update RAW, and what’s stopping you from updating to High Sierra?

Apple doesn't update Raw Support for older operating systems, so you can be sure that Sierra won't get any additional camera support.
