Nikon flash sb-600,sb-800 or sb-900

Hi,I would want that you helped me to a flash for my nikon d80.For a general use, that does not remain small with time, perhaps sb-800 and sb-900 are the best options, is not much difference of prices in ebay, but I do not have experience with any of them,can tell me your experiences whit them. my equipment are Nikon D80,18-55VR,55-200VR,MB-D80,tripod and after buying the flash will watch a lens macro.Thx in advance

They are all wonderful.

The SB-800 being a great model, and the SB-900 giving you more power and much more ease of use and customization compared to the 800.

If you do have a camera shop near by check them all out. The 900 is as large as people might expect though, so think about that when you go to put it on top of your D80.

I myself have a SB-800, its great and am glad i got it instead of the 600, if only for the 5th battery option, plus it can be a commander for a wireless setup - and SB-600 can't.

I plan on getting a 900 at some point but as you only have a D80 you wont be able to update its firmware, there is already an update that stops it thinking its overheating when its not and turning off, so unless you can get one from a supplier that can update it before you have it or know someone with a d3, 300 or 700 to update it for you id say go with the SB-800.

It you are doing macros buy the smaller SB600 and use the money saved for a sync cord and material to make a light "tent" and a second cheap tripod or light stand to hold the SB600. You can't use a shoe mounted flash for macro. Also macro work doesn not require so much light as the flash can be very close.

I think the Sb800 is discontinued now, replaced by the SB900 but there is likely plenty of SB800 still in stock.

Can you break that up into several sentences? I'm having a hard time understanding what you're asking.

The SB-900 zooms to 200mm. The SB-800 only to 105mm.

Don't worry just needed a little clarification

For $80 USD, I'd go with the SB-900 (especially if the additional size doesn't bother you).

Can't answer your question about the D80's firmware, although I find that doubtful.

I just found out that the SB-900 doesn't have any of the old TTL modes, eg. D-TTL, which is used for example in the Kodak 14n and SLR/n (if you want to get a cheap full frame). Bummer.

Thx to all for his help , a friend would let his sb-600 and tamron 90mm macro to me,to experiment with them , if I disappear sb-800 I hope to obtain sb-900, while she will prove with sb-600 and tamron.
