ISO 6400 is pretty cool -- even 13fps when cropped to 3MP pics. 27mm to 486mm too?

This is some camera, albeit not a D300. Still, $399 gets you a LOT of features.

I really might get one of these. However, I'm not sure if it supports RAW format...did not see any mention. Can't decide between this and Panasonic dmc fz18. Guess I'll wait for some reviews.

Honey, I shrunk the DSLR!

Looks nice for a P&S. Although for about $50 more you could have a real DSLR, the D40. Of course this P80 has insane zoom and image stabilization all included for $400.

Nice lens specs :) I love these types of cameras, although they're rarely done well. Sure, I'd never get one myself, but the value is incredibly good for most situations. Usually, the lens on these types of large point and shoots aren't bad (easier to make a small, good lens), and the features are outstanding. The problem has always been sensor size and noise (needs the smallest sensor for the 18x zoom....no other real choice). I don't even know why they put in an ISO 6400. I don't even use that setting on my D300. The thing Nikon got right is the focal range, which starts from 27 mm. I just wish they gave this camera a 9x zoom (rather than 18x), included an 8 MP sensor (not 10 MP), and added a bigger sensor. A reduction in focal range (eg: to 9x or 8x zoom) may have even allowed them to include a constant f/2.8 lens.

And then add add the cost of lenses...this is more towards those not able to spend thousand(s) of dollars on a camera.

Seriously, it's the "I want to go birding...and shoot wide angle shots in Paris" lens. Similar to the Canon S5.

Bridge cameras may not be for everyone on this forum, but they do provide a good all-in-one solution for the savvy travelers.

I think this looks awesome, and as soon as I can play with one, I'm going to. If its half of what it is on paper, it should be phenomenal. 18x zoom with VR throughout, ISO 6400 even though its small res, 13fps... wow.

doubtful for RAW -- it's not intended for that market. RAW users would jump to the D40.

Not necessarily...the Pansonic DMC Fz18 which is very comparable has RAW...even my canon S70 does RAW which I bought like 3 years ago.

In my imagination
I love it, but I'd rather have less zoom. Moving all that glass with that tiny motor will no doubt be noisy and take forever.

ISO 6400 and the 13 fps is pretty sweet, and would make me purchase one soon. I guess the only change I would have made would be to take off that weird viewfinder and make the camera with more manual functions....

Basically give me the Canon G9 with that body style and ISO 6400.
