nintendo DS vs. Gameboy Micro

Three parts to this post

1)Which one do you think I should get?

2)Some background.....

When I was young I loved the Sega gamegear, Sonic was amazing and still think today its one of the best games I have played! after a few years of not playing games I bought an N64, loved goldeneye etc! Since then, I bought a gameboy advance when they first came out, the fact that it had no back light really grinded my gears, I sold it in less than a month! I was then given a playstation, the 3d games were good, but on tomb raider when the camera changed angles I just couldn't get used to that, you went to move and the camera angles moved as well!

so when you play thew DS do the camera angles move in that fashion as well!

3)I'm 21 nearly 22 years old, am I too old for handheld games devices!? I could get an xbox 360 but I don't like playing those sorts of games, and really don't want to get too involved. Mario cart and sonic rush for me!

I ask about the micro because it looks simpler! would the touch screen comfuse me! should I get a psp?

The only advantage of the Micro is that it's smaller (it's not even much cheaper). Get a DS. More games available = better. Micro and DS can both play GBA games, but Micro can't play DS games or oldschool GB games.

I'd go DS, I just got one a few months ago, and I love it, I had a PSP and returned it to get the DS, I'm very happy I did, the PSP sure is cool and is very powerful, but its missing one thing, GAMES! The DS has cool/fun/interesting games coming out the wazoo!! and if your into old school games, IE sonic, mario, etc, go for this and in 3D games like Mario 64, the camera andlges arent a problem, for me at least. and Its only $30 more, but I do see where your coming from, the micro is super cool and sleek, but Just look at the graphics, the DS is a might better, and you can play GBA games on it if you have a hankering

i don't have either (ds micro or psp) but personally i'd get a micro or psp. i'd get the micro if moneys tight. if moneys not much of an issue i'd get the psp because of the better design and (for me personally) cooler games

Get the DS. You shouldn't think twice about it.

The GameBoy Micro is a Gameboy. It came out in 1989. If you want a deal, get a used Gameboy Pocket at EBgames or something, and then get a DS. I just got one for Christmas with Mario Kart, the online stuff is great.
Oh, and I just turned 25, you're never too old for Mario Kart!

Let me re-focus your Choices: It should be between the DS and PSP. And the PSP is more expensive, so go DS.

In my opinion you are never too old to play video games... it's entertainment. As for your purchase, I say go with the DS. And get Animal Crossing!

To the last point, no you are not too old for handheld games! I am thinking of getting a DS myself and I'm nearly 25!

Buy the DS; it plays all Gameboy Advance Micro games anyway. The PSP is for the most part 3D games with a constantly changing camera angle; essentially a portable PS2. The DS, on the other hand, is home to some great 2D games such as Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Kirby, and even the first good Sonic game in years in addition to its great 3D games (Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, etc.). Both PSP and DS have great puzzle games (Lumines and Meteos) if you are into those as well.

see, people say get the PSP because its kick@ss, which it is, but people say get the DS because of mariokart, castlevania, animal crossing, tramua center, Mario, and it goes on and on. I will agree that the PSP is cooler and more powerful, but as far as games go, the DS is #1, rarely do people say get the PSP cause of this game or that game, its just get it cause its powerful and small.

I just bought a micro the other day.

It is amazing. It is so small, and so light, that I can go anywhere with it and pull it out anytime I want. Many of the games coming out for it are my favourite games that I would choose to play over upcomming, crappy games (Final Fantasy Adventure IV, for example).

So it depends on what you're looking for. You're deciding between a rather large handheld and the smallest ever made.

The micro has a neat and small form factor but not as powerful as the DS and not that much cheaper.

I would recommend the DS, great library of games, remember it is backward compatable with every gameboy game ever made. Remember its all about the games. The DS boasts an innovative interface that is remarkable. Just go get one, you don't need my permission.

I've had such a great time w/ my DS. Get a DS and play all these sweet new games that just keep coming out. Now that the new year is here, we still have games to look forward to like Super Princess Peach, New Super Mario Bros, and Metroid Prime Hunters (online deathmatches).

I think you can only use Gameboy Advance games on the DS (same as with the Micro)... you can't use old Gameboy or Gameboy Color games. I don't think that's a big deal though. Also, you can only play them in single player mode on the DS.

Of course, if you got a DS, you'd probably be playing DS games more than old Gameboy games anyways - so none of that should really matter.

The Micro is a fad. Yes it's small, but that's it.

The DS is still not very big, but it's much more techy and you get to play all the sweet new games.

The PSP is this generation's Game Gear, which I did own, by the way.

Mmmm, I should consider getting a DS, though. I wish it supported WPA. I think that's the kicker for me right now.

right... I had a Micro and I have a DS. don't let the fact I had a Micro be bad, i took it back because the UK version doesn't come with faceplates and has no black version (all my GB's have been black) and i needed the money for an EyeTV.

The Micro is a beautifully crafted machine. Its just so light, so delicate yet robust, plays what I consider the best games of all time (there's a reason why the GBA is the most sold gaming machine ever), the battery life is wonderful and the screens quality puts even the PSP to shame. I consider this the single greatest GBA playing machine ever. plus you're sorta limiting yourself to GBA only games... which might be good for you. they're very cheap now and there are SO many classics on the system. but yea. biggest feature here is that, well IMO, the Micro is the best GBA yet.

The DS on the other hand, whilst being undeniably a fantastic gaming platform, is not the best way to experience GBA games. infact out of all the systems I'd say its the worst for GBA games. but thats balanced out by the range of killer DS games; Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Kirby, Castlevania, Mario 64, Nintendogs, Bomberman, Sonic Rush, upcoming Metroid Hunters... etc.

Its a hard choice. the Micro is small, beautiful, feels excellent. but the DS has more games, more future, new gameplay.

Id go for the DS though, just because I'm utterly addicted to Animal Crossing and Mario Kart right now.

and NO! you are not too old. I'm 20 this sunday, handheld games are the only systems with, IMO, gameplay. there are a few good console games out but I'd happily only play handheld. reason being (not counting the PSP because thats just wrong) is that handhelds are weaker systems, lack of graphics forces developers to fall back on the most important part to a game... gameplay. handhelds are basically the prolonged 80's and 90's console games.
My lecturer is 25 and he loves Nintendogs. I know a range of bizarre and older people people who love the DS and GBA. age is nothing! hell my parents were playing Tetris on my old GB back when they were 40-odd. my dad even took it into work, a lot of his work mates did. addictive as hell Tetris was.

That's a tough one.

I got a micro, and I love it. Screen is brilliant and bright, system is very nicely designed, and it's so small! I can just toss it into a pocket and play whenever I want. I do feel a smidge of regret though, since a lot of the awesome games are coming out for DS.

If you're gonna play more GBA games and want something to play on the go, I'd recommend the micro. If you don't care as much about portability and want the latest games and will be playing more DS than GBA games, I'd go with the DS.
