Looks like a supplemental update got pushed tonight (Aug 29 PST) for the VM ware bug. I haven't tested it out as I have no business in VMWare outside of work. But it was nice that Apple acknowledged it and fixed the issue.

Where are you seeing this new Supplemental Update? The last 10.15.6 Supplemental update (Aug 12) had a fix in it for VM:

• Fixes a stability issue that could occur when running virtualization apps
