Bought new from B&H on April 11, 2018. Within the first week, I started having the graphics freezing problem. It's going back to  tomorrow.

SIGH!!!

RIP! Sorry for your loss. Apple quality is really going down the toilet nowadays. Their MacPro is full of issues and (nearly) impossible to repair, and their laptops are falling apart at the seams. Apple needs to step it up.

Any MacBook or MacBookPro that is from 2015 or newer. Also avoid the Air, it doesn't have a retina display.

Shouldn't be failing this early, just be glad you got it taken care of.

Even the non-touch bar 15" model without TB3 from '15? Why would you avoid the Air simply because it doesn't have a retina display? I like my non-retina 15" MBP just fine. That seems like a personal preference.

2015 MBP is fine - old keyboard, plenty of ports.

Okay. I've been thinking about replacing my 2012 unibody with the 2015 MBP since it has retina and a very fast SSD. My external hard drives are firewire so I'd like those ports. However, it seems the model with AMD discrete graphics is not available (only on the used market).

You won’t get FW on a 2015 but you can use a TB to FW adapter.

i thought they are only selling D500 entry level and D700 higher level?
am actually thinking of buying a MacPro 6,1 sooner or later; here in Europe pricing for entry model is 3.399 Euro with 6-core Model, D500 and 16GB + 256 GB PciE FlashSSD
[doublepost=1526331601][/doublepost]well, this price is actually for Germany; pricing is varied here in Europe, from country to country, according to taxes, i presume.

??? Air doesn't have retina? That's hardly a quality issue! It's just the design that's reflected in its price. Quite happy with mine thanks.

It's poor quality. If I'm getting an Apple machine that's around the $1k mark, it's having a retina display. The fact the Air doesn't have a retina display is sad, and quite honestly... the air is a waste of money. Sorry bro, glad it's working well for you though.

B&H Photo still have some of the original 4 core/D300/12 GB RAM entry level models in stock for a reduced price of $1900. Apple only sells the 6 core/D500/16 GB RAM version as it’s entry level model for $3000.

Seems as though I’ve seen most of the graphical issues come from the D300 cards

Damn that is expensive. Over 2 years ago I got that exact same spec nMP for $2500 usd as an apple refurb.

Selsk , and how did it fare, this re-furb nMP? Have you been happy with it all the way, still using it? thanks

Hi. I love it. It's a great computer. I think it's funny how much hate the trashcan gets. Everyone calls it a complete failure etc. Its a super-computer the size of a large beer that has dual workstation gpu's inside. It is mostly totally silent unless under full load and even then....it's one big slow fan...still pretty quiet.

I do wish I could upgrade the GPU's as a future proof but they still serve me just fine. I use it mainly for photography and design and it never skips a beat or leaves me waiting for any process. After work is done, I load up windows via bootcamp and play some games. GTA and PUBG mainly. I play @ 2560x1440 since I have a 27" Eizo CG277. I'm seeing 65-80 FPS in PUBG.....which is great! I use the latest hacked drivers from www.bootcampdrivers.com I have won many chicken dinners....if only my opponents knew they got beat by a mac pro, victory would be that much sweeter.

Anyway, back to the machine. Since we can now use NVMe drives via adapters....that is awesome as well. I'm about to purchase a 512gb Samsung EVO PRO to upgrade my measly stock 256gb SSD. Also there are many XEON processor options available to upgrade...weather u want single core or multicore performance. Server pull chips are cheap and plentiful on that big online auction website.

EGPUs are an option as well if you need more GPU power in OSX. Plug in a Vega56 or 1080ti into the thunderbolt 2 and it will dramatically out perform the internal gpus. Unfortunately this is still not working in bootcamp or I would be pursuing this option for gaming.

Oh and yea I have bought many macs as refurb direct from apple. Zero problems. Actually I would be willing to bet this is a more reliable option that brand new. Refurbs get that extra step of correction & attention before they are put back on the market. Of course you still have warranty and can purchase apple care for them. Don't pay full retail. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

I bought the same d300 12gb model in December. It's been an excellent computer so far (touch wood). As soon as AppleCare ends it'll defo be getting a new cpu and NVME drive and maybe an egpu. The 4 spinning drives from old Mac Pro are in a USB enclosure so not actually using much of the 256 drive.

MacPro 6,1 D700 since March 2014. Upgraded by myself last year with 32 GB RAM, 2,8 GHz 10-Core Intel Xeon E5 V2,
Kingston SHPM2280P2H/480G PCIE-SSD with Sintech-Adapter, EGPU: Akitio Node + NVIDIA 980Ti Hybrid
Always worked fine without any issues...
