I’m looking for a new monitor for use with my nMP that luckily I was able to get before the end of February.

I’ll mostly be using my computer for FCP and general everyday stuff. I’ve spent so much on the computer and want something to complement it. I’ve been looking around and here’s what I come up with.

I’ll start with the obvious. Apple TB display. Good display but hasn’t been updated in ages.

Asus PA279Q – Good monitor. Good specs. My question is since it can do 10 bit color. I would need the override hack to enable 10 bit. From what I gather, HDMI can’t do 10 bit. Will mini display handle the 10 bit color? From what I gather it does come with a mini display to Display Port. Will it push the 10 bit color? Or should I use the Display port to Display port using a Mini display adaptor?

Eizo FlexScan EV2736W - Another good choice but it doesn’t do 10 bit color. It seems more towards office use.

NEC EA274WMI-BK - seems similar to the Eizo

My reasoning for going 10 bit is so that when I am working in FCP I could get more accurate colors, but I know in order to really get an understanding of what I’ve seeing on the screen and that will make it to TV I need a broadcast monitor. (which for now isn’t happening) I’m used to working in a real edit suite where they do have production monitors or just working off of a laptop and I don’t really need to be concerned about colors too much.

I’m open to other suggestions. I heard Dell makes some good monitors but I’m not familiar with them. I would like to stay between 24-27” and about $1,000.

Thanks!

I can't think of a more critical question for those who have just been informed (this morning) that their nMP will be delivered between March 3 and 7.

Besides those listed above, I am also considering:

one of the LG Ultrawides (w/ TB2) due 3/10 and the

Seiki 4k though the low price has me scared.

Thoughts?

I do not do photo editing or much video work; I plan on using the GPUs to crunch numbers and would like the biggest affordable single monitor.
