nMP Coil Whine

So I've started noticing the dreaded coil whine off my nMP.
I did some experimenting however and found that it doesn't occur anywhere near as much (pretty much gone) if the machine is running high load (i.e BOINC running SETI tasks on CPU and both GPUs)

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've heard that you can "run in" a nMP with coil whine and with a settling in period the noise will quite often disappear. Is this correct?

Apple are accepting a return for the unit and are sending a replacement.

Many tasks are very demanding to the components.
I have no experience with those tasks you mention but converting video from one to another format puts the processor near its limit (and if I am not wrong also uses the GPU). Until now I never heard any noise in that or any other task.
Before buying my computer a year ago I heard a lot about noises and was very worried in advance.
However I never experienced anything of the kind until now and the only noises I hear come from external hard drives.
If you can create such a noise is unknown to me but maybe other people will give you more information.
Personally I believe that a good working nMP is entirely silent and a noisy one must have some hardware fault which should be found out and corrected.
I am confident that your replacement machine will be absolutely silent.

Did you get the replacement? Did it have the whine problem?

I'm curious because I also returned mine for the same reason. Right now I'm debating wether I should give the nMP another try or if I should buy an iMac instead.

Same problem but only noticeable if I lean over the desk and listen for it. So I'm good. You won't get two real bad ones in a row

I'm getting kind of nervous about this myself, especially since my 1 year warranty expired around yesterday (at least that was the "ship" date).

When I got my nMP almost exactly a year ago, and it was dead silent, but just around the time I saw the recent threads on coil whine this past month, I started noticing my nMP isn't as dead silent as it used to be. I'm very sensitive to such noises, but obviously it's really hard to know when people say "coil whine", exactly what that sounds like and how loud it is.

There's obviously "fan" noise, but beyond the whisper of the fan, I hear a medium to high pitched tone... but it sounds kind of mechanical, but then maybe the fan is causing the tone to osculate, so not sure if it's related to the fan, but it's definitely not the "whoosh" of air. I can barely hear it from several feet away, but it's noticeable if I put my ear up to it, and I'm just about 100% sure it wasn't there when I first got it.
