I have been having issues with my Quad Core nMP spontaneously restarting. My fan speed is always +-1500rpm even when the CPU is not under load. That seems high to me. The AnandTech review states that the vast majority of the time the fan spins at 769rpm. Is that the same as everyone else's experience?

Unless your ambient temps are very hot, then something is wrong. Did you do a Apple Hardware Test ("D" held on restart)?

Yes ran the hardware test and it didn't reveal anything. Ambient temperatures are not high (22 degrees C). For some reason the fan just runs fast. That combined with the spontaneous restarts are not what you expect from a high end machine that people buy for reliability.

I sent the machine back to the Apple Reseller here in South Africa for them to check. Unfortunately they are telling me they can't find anything wrong.
