nMP optimal diskspace option

What would you suggest to do?

1. Upgrade nMP SSD to 500GB and get simple Lacie 1TB thunderbolt drive
2. Get Lacie 2Big 4TB Thunderbolt and leave nMP with standard capacity

Mainly need it for RAW files (approx. 40MB/file), PSD,AI,INDD files (and other similar). Once a while to do some HD video editing. Occasionally to run games like Starcraft 2 from that external drive.
My apps and work (excluding archives and backup) take now around 165GB.

Get the most SSD you can reasonably afford. The more you can work from and store on solid state, the better your life will be. In my case (and I also work with photos), I intend to max out the SSD so I can keep all my apps and current photo library on solid state. The only time I'll need to hit spinning disks is if I need to access something in my archives.

Really? I'm also using it for photography while it's not my main use case. I was planning on putting all that on TB SSD, as it shouldn't be appreciably slower than internal flash and will be considerably cheaper.

Yeah, that's fine... all I was saying was put as much on SSD as possible. Internal or external don't matter

So what you say get base SSD in nMP and get external SSD?
Would be ok. I could move purchase in time to let my wallet rest a bit

My plan is to stay with the internal 256GB SSD for the system and apps. All data will go on a Lacie 3GB Thunderbolt-drive.

Depending on what applications you run, putting some data on SSD will noticeably improve performance. For example putting Aperture libraries on a SSD with the photos referenced and on a hard drive will improve performance over having the libraries and photos on a hard drive.

That would be my choice. Why spend a fortune on internal SSD when a TB SSD is so easy an upgrade? There should be little performance difference. I don't know why you'd BTO more internal flash unless you really can't stand an external box.

I haven't yet found a TB SSD enclosure I like however so I might go with USB 3 which should be sufficient. Or you can get one of the many docks and do eSATA too. With the release of the nMP I expect OWC and others to come out with more TB external disk enclosures.

Not much out there.
If Lacie had a small, SSD, Thunderbolt version of the Blade Runner I would
not hesitate.
I was almost thinking of getting the USB 3 Blade Runner, giving the 4TB to my son, and try replacing it with a 1 TB SSD.

If you don't have tons of client data to work on, then 256gb is plenty for most. If the $300 upgrade cost to the 512gb is valid, then I think thats a worthy upgrade.

If you need a Pegasus for speed, the 1TB SSD will be much faster and probably cheaper. Thats the route I'm going
