nMP, Pegasus, and Dell 4K

Hi all

I thought I'd share a couple of infos that could be valuable to some of you.

I received my Mac Pro this week, and installed the Pegasus2 R4 diskless and Dell Up2414Q 4K display.

Pegasus2 R4 was plug and play and my former disks moved from another enclosure were immediately mounted in OSX. However the Pegasus2 is not detected by the Pegasus Management Utility ?! so that wasn't a great start. However the pegasus command line utility (terminal > promiseutil) strangely allowed to manage the enclosure, but it took a while to figure out how to use the command line, but now it's getting better and better. No idea though why the pegasus utility wouldn't work.

The Dell 2414Q is great and after switching to Retina like HiDPI mode 1920x1080 is a great setup, i get full resolution images for my photo editing, while retaining a normal size user interface, so to me that's perfect.

Still could not manage to enable the 60Hz mode even with OS X 10.9.2 update, unfortunately. No big deal to me as i don't do much video editing, but still annoying.

Yes; so far they have only come up with the idea of uninstalling / reinstalling the utility, which i had done many times over.
They're supposed to get back to me though for more advanced investigation.
 
I have a question about the r4, can you raid two of the drives and use a third as a back up? Would this be a secure set up? I've heard that if the pegasus dies you lose everything is that true?
 
If you're running 10.9.2 (and presumably you are) it could be that the Pegasus Management Utility simply isn't compatible with 10.9.2.

I've been using LaCie RAID Monitor in 10.9.1 without issues for monitoring a pair of my LaCie 2big Thunderbolt enclosures and find when running 10.9.2 this monitor isn't compatible. It starts up and hangs using 100% CPU of one core. It has to be Force Quit and de-installed otherwise it comes back to life on a re-boot. I've talked to LaCie about this and they're not surprised as Apple constantly changes things and it takes 3rd party vendors a few months to catch up and make changes etc.

Any more thoughts on it?

Is it too lame to use at 30hz in hi dpi mode?
 
Another note of interest that i forgot: the compatibility list of hard drives of the pegasus is very short, with just a few models.

However I simply took away the bare drives (WD caviar green) from my old RAID1 WD My Book Duo and stuck them in the Pegasus, it worked flawlessly despite not listed as compatible.

Have no fear, the HiDPI is great. The UP2414Q is stunningly beautiful to look at, my photos are crispy-crisp that's a beauty, and HiDPI makes the user interface perfectly usable (without the icons and texts are ridiculously small).

The only moment I notice the 30Hz is when the windows are minimizing to the dock, it looks less fluid. Other than that it's marvelous.

What's puzzling is that the pegasus command line utility actually works well! Even if it makes the thing more complicated.
