Speaking of nMP shipments . . .
This morning, I dutifully checked the status on my nMP order (hex/16GB/1TB/D700), and it said, as it has for weeks, "Processing . . . Ships January." I thought, what do I have to lose by calling and asking if an Apple Store agent might be able to give me more information? Maybe they know internally that these units won't ship until February, maybe I can get them to toss me a crumb . . .
So I called, and spoke with a very nice agent. She told me that as far as she knew, Apple was committed to getting those units out, ones promised to ship in January, by the end of January. I then asked, does she know from what location my unit might be shipped? I mentioned offhandedly that I know they're assembled in Texas, and if it's shipping from here then I won't ask to change to faster shipping, but maybe I will if it's coming from somewhere else. She then offered to upgrade me to Next Day Air shipping at no charge. I thanked her.
I just got back to my desk and noticed an email from the Apple Store. My order has shipped, overnight, and will be here tomorrow. Nice!
So orders might spend very little time, like hours or less, in the Preparing phase. And calling and not ranting can get you a little Apple TLC in the form of free fast shipping.
