nMP slow on logout/shutdown?

Interesting quirk with my nMP. When I logout of my user account to swap/log in as a different user, or just plain log out, there is a significant delay in getting to the account select home screen (where all user accounts are displayed). It sits on an all gray screen for 5-7 seconds.

My 2008 nMP with SSD was lightning fast in this respect. Took the blink of an eye.

Any ideas what might be causing the nMP to be so dog slow on logout/shutdown?

I have an external TB 2-disk 6GB raid attached, along with an Apple USB SuperDrive. I may try pulling each to see if one or the other is causing as OSX tries to unmount them...

Are you using filevault, by chance?

My Macbook Pro started doing this after that.

It could also be your storage.

Where you still running Snow Leopard on your 2008? With Lion, the shut down times increased considerably. I know some believe it is due to the amount of time that OSX allows for backing up to to iCloud before it closes applications.

Power up to logo is longer than 2008 with SDD. Maybe it's doing more system checks? But from logo to desktop it's much faster than 2008. No user switching for me.

Shutdown for me is about the same.

Einz - thanks. I have more sleuthing to do. I have a family. Wife, two teenage daughters. So we log out and swap users a lot. Interestingly, I've found that one of my daughter accounts shuts down in an eye blink and goes to the accounts home screen. All three others take 10 seconds (I timed it) which is an eternity on these nMPs. Something's up. Gotta track this one down.

paulrbeers. I was using mavericks, but you actually may be on to something here... The one account on my nMP that shuts down in less than a second does NOT have iCloud setup yet. Excellent thought. I'll test.
