nMP SSD Upgrade

As an anniversary gift I received a nMP with 256 SSD which is way too small for my needs.

I read that OWC is coming out with SSD upgrades for the nMP later this year. Is there an SSD upgrade for the nMP that's available now? Can it use an SSD designed for the MacBook Pro Retina?

I don't think SSD upgrades are currently available.

256GB is too small as the base for this machine. I agree there.

I ended up with a Pegasus2 R4.

I would expect to see SSD upgrades well before the end of the year. One screw holds the drive in, so it is an easy swap.

On Ebay I've seen 512 and 1TB SSD upgrades for the MacBook Pro Retina. Are they the same SSDs used in the nMP?

Doesn't explain the need for a greater than 256gb drive. Is it your work data that needs it? Or your iTunes data? Or whatevs? Seriously doubt anyone needs an internal sad for anything other than boot / personal stuff

You could try AppleCare tech support... This guy was able to get another power cable for the nMP doing this... Maybe a long-shot, but worth a call... Maybe you can get them to sell you a bigger SSD replacement?

Seriously?! My laptop has a 256GB SSD and that's nearly full of 5 years of email, office docs, clip art libraries, some Camtasia demos and a couple small VMs (no iTunes at all). I would turn this around, and ask how anyone can do any serious work on a 256GB drive?! :D

Also, seriously?

The night it was released I unthinkingly ordered the 256 unit. It wasn't until later I realized that the 512 could be had for a relatively decent upgrade price of $300, but stupid Apple wouldn't change the order without putting it back at the end of the line and I'd have to wait a few more months which I couldn't do.

256 is too small for dual boot Windows and OS X. OS X partitions can be resized after the fact, but Windows ones can't easily be enlarged.

Hello,

nMP SSDs are available in Asia and went on sale in mid-February. If you are looking for 512 GB, it is available online.

The seller with the listing for the 512 is in Charlestown, Massachusetts and has over 800 feedback. As long as the seller has good feedback I've bought stuff, like used xeon CPU's worldwide.

I gave you a lead and the seller sells original parts. Let me make a suggestion; please contact the seller and ask these type of questions to them, such as compatibility, warranty and return policy. I am sure you will get answers.

Most MR members were not even aware of the existence of the SSD from third parties, as you see from the previous posts, they will just leave you with; I believe nMP SSD it is not that, nMP SSD is this....the usual drag.

There are only a handful of members who would genuinely help you here. So please contact the vendor directly and get your questions answered;)
 
OP, if there is in existence, a third party SSD for the nMP, we would have heard about it by now. If the OWC MacBook Pro SSD is compatible for the nMP, they would have announced it donkey years ago.

The only options you have are to source for OEM Apple original SSD for the nMP, either through Apple itself, its authorized repair technicians or from some random Ebay sellers who god knows have their own sources for these SSD.

Don't think he or anyone else needs to justify to you why they need more storage for internal. He's just asking for options so if you got nothing useful to say, go thread crap elsewhere.

Sorry for disagreeing but nowadays i regret having bought a 240 Mercury Accelsior instead of a 480 because it's really too small (especially when AE starts writing caches).

And all my library templates are on the 7200 drive in order to save space.

We all have different needs, that's all :)

Same blades from MBP 2013 probably fit, but are not the same drives. The capacities match up but the speeds do not. What is generally being sold now is slower, larger drivers for the Mac Pro 2013. If simply general SSD speed is enough then there are solutions. If want to keep the faster speed and go to a higher capacity then have to wait.
 
I have a 240 SSD in my cMP working with 10TB internal and 6TB external. Even 512 SSD won't be enough if you refuse to have an external. Keep you home folder on the SSD but move Movies, Photos, Music off to a thunderbolt external...they are blazing fast.

Ahh, OK. I will wait as well. I want to have the fastest speed SSD.

They haven't announced it fits because the Macbook Pro SSD's from OWC (Aura) is not the PCIe one (uses a SATA connection.)

Why would it not be the same speed. The only way to obtain those drives would be from an actual late 2013 mac and therefore they would have the 750 read, 650 write speeds.

To the OP, I would give it a try.
