Is display port 1.3 a hardware upgrade only?

Will my tb2 ports run a 4K at 60Hz>

If so which ones?

Which display port do I have now? (see sig)

This is the most complex of any set up possibilities I have come across.

Help.

Yes, Display Port 1.3 would be a hardware only upgrade.

Yes, your TB2 ports will run a 4k at 60Hz, should be one on each bus. There are 3 busses, two ports for each. Apple has a diagram on their support site for this.

You have display port 1.2 now.

Let's just hope and pray to the apple god that the upcoming 5k Thunderbolt Display will feature a Dual TB2 solution for us 1st gen nMP users. It would be the biggest disappointment if Apple would leave us in the rain with only 4k support. I find 4k merely useless on the nMP cause I need the screen estate of the current 27" displays.

It's crazy how they made this much of a fuzz in their marketing about how the nMP can drive three 4k displays, then selling it with a 3rd party screen and then, when their own display comes out a year too late, they will say "oh, too bad, only the 2nd gen nMP supports proper retina at 27"...

From memory, link aggregation is a standard feature of TB2, so short of offering a card upgrade in-store service option, it wouldn't surprise me to see monitor options added with something like:

1x5k using link aggregation from 2 busses plus 1x4k on HDMI
1x5k using link aggregation from 2 busses plus 2x current standard 24-30"

Then again, it also wouldn't surprise me to see the current nMP orphaned as a v1 product, like the 32bit Core Duo laptops.

oooo loorrdd please make it a displayport only monitor with a usb "3" cable like the old 24-27 cinema display.

You think there's gonna be in store card upgrades?

in general, I doubt it - the nMP is more or less a pro appliance. Though, I get the impression every now and then that "Tim's Apple" has a tendency to zig where "Steve's Apple" would have zagged, so it wouldn't surprise me.
