nMP video glitches - normal?

Hi all,

There have been a few times when this has happened, it looks like a bunch of ants in an elevator on my screen :) When installing the 10.10.2 update it showed itself again during the reboot.

Excuse the dust, honestly I was cleaning when I grabbed my camera:

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I seek Apple tech?

When does this happen? I use to see this occasionally during bootup when I first installed Yosemite but I haven't seen it for many months.

If it's happening after Yosemite starts, it could be your display, cable, or computer... you'll have to do some good old-fashioned trouble-shooting replacing things one at a time to isolate where the problem lies.

During boot, yes. Usually in the same position and same/similar pattern. I'm using a 'cheaper' display port cable, so that could be the issue I suppose, although it doesn't happen on desktop use.

I am concerned it could be the graphics hardware, memory etc. but good to know others have seen it.

Are you using an Apple cable out of interest?

At the time, I had a pair of Apple 24" LED Cinema Displays connected through Monoprice MDP extension cables to my nMP. It was only visible in the early days of Yosemite for me. I had read that others were seeing similar artifacts during boot. In any case, I can't possibly see it now even if it's still there as my 4K Dell displays don't light up until the login screen.

I would try a fresh install of OS X 10.10.2 and see if that fixes it.
 
I bought a base refurb nmp about a month ago. I noticed as i was upgrading it to yosemite and it did the first boot after the up after the install I had a square in the upper left corner that was pixelated. Also sometimes when rebooting i would get flashing white pixels on the screen while the machine was rebooting. I also got a msg that the video card stopped repsonding a few times while i was playing diablo 3. I recorded the issues with my iphone in case they were unable to reproduce the issues at the apple store. The genius said that It looked like a faulty gpu. I decided to pay the difference and just buy a new nmp from the store. I have not had a single issue with this machine so far after a month of use.
 
It's graphics bug on some early beta versions of 10.10. It only appears during shutdown or boot when the screen is dark. It's cosmetic issue rather than anything else.

Really? I happened on 10.10.1->10.10.2 upgrade.
 
I haven't seen it since out of beta. There must be something about your setup that's making it appear. You can try reinstall or wait for 10.10.3?
 
I have a cMP and had the same thing during the 10.10 beta testing. It happen both on startup and shutdown. At sometime during the testing period it went away for me.

Released version did not present on my machine nor have any point updates caused it to return.

However, I have noticed a reduction in UI responsiveness since the .2 update. I thought this was a graphical horsepower issue with my machine and upgraded my video card from an HD5870 to an HD7970. This had no effect on the user interface responsiveness, but it did kick FCPX in rear-end. I'm happy with the upgrade, but not with the 10.10.2 UI.
 
Just as an update I had many cases of this issue occur along with a SSD read hang on boot one time and that made me take it in to Apple - like others they replaced GPU-B with the SSD.
