Hi
My friend who is an ATT rep went into my account to turned off EDGE and 3G. Now when I turn on my crappy Pantech phone nothing comes up -- I can't even receive pictures or any kind of data. My question is: will I incur any charges if I pop my SIM into my iPhone 2G and start to use it? I plan to Jailbreak it or put on a custom FW first. Someone told me that simply checking voicemail will rack up charges. Anyone verify this? Thanks!

If data is turned off on your account than it doesn't matter what phone you use you still won't get any data.

Yes visual voicemail uses a small amount of data.

hmmm

AT&T friend should have been able to tell you this. ;) also should be able to answer that question. but if he smart enough to turn it off he is smart enough to turn it on.

What will happen sooner or later is, you'll get a text message from AT&T saying that an iPhone was detected on that line and thus, the iPhone plan is required.
