Hello,

there was a lot of information when Apple announced iMac PRO and it's capability to edit 8k footage in 8k timeline. The thing is, when I try to create a new project in FCPX (10.4.2), maximum resolution is 5k and I can't find 8k option.

I have seen a statement from Apple "Video editors can edit up to eight streams of 4K video, or edit 4.5K RED RAW video and 8K ProRes 4444 at full resolution in real time without rendering"

Does that mean thath background rendering is turned off or what?

You could use the CUSTOM setting an put in the correct dimensions.

And background rendering is not turned off, the iMac is probably just capable of real time playback of those formats. When my 2015 MB can play back 1080p H264 footage without needing to render it (unless an effect is applied) and iMac Pro should be able to do the same with four times the resolution.
