Apple vision was noticeable absent from all talks about Apple intelligence at wwdc. Kinda disappointed since it’s the platform I use Siri on the most and I think could really benefit from this… also will kinda sucks not to have the apps app feel the same across platforms when they’re missing all that 🙄

Yes disappointing. Seems visionOS 2.0 is a minor update. Not just AI, but that's the big one, but many new features seem to be missing like calculator, calculations in Notes, etc.

No worries. It will likely come in a future update. My guess is when they announce the new iPhone in September, they will give their brief update on other devices and tell us all the goodies are also coming to visionOS. By this point, the AVP would be sold in additional countries (starting in late June).

Math in notes is definitely there (and it really is cool). The spatialize photos feature is AI driven, and that's definitely in there. The effect is excellent actually.

Maybe they just didn't want to keep adding AVP to the list every time they mentioned a new feature.

Yeah, it would have been nice to have it now but I’m pretty excited about what they announced.

What does it say? Please tell us. Should we throw out AVP away and wait on V2 in a couple of years?
I don't think it says anything that drastic! But it does show the state of visionOS and that they still need to add a lot of basic functionality, as well as make all the Apple apps native to the OS. So a lot more foundational work ahead before they'd be able to add AI. Personally, I think being able to unlock and mirror iPhone would be the biggest quality of life improvement they could make, sooner rather than later. The AI stuff will roll out over time, even to Mac / iPhone / iPad.

I read on another form that someone talked to an Apple engineer at WWDC and they said because the M2 is so taxed running the device itself, It would not have any juice left over to do Apple intelligence so they do not intend to put it in visionOS.

EDIT: since then I found one interview with Craig Frederico, where he admits that they will bring aspects of Apple intelligence to Apple vision Pro in future releases. So I guess it's on the table after all.

Meanwhile, in the the developer sessions, there are a ton of features that people were calling for when the AVP was first announced…

The Keynote is not the place to spoonfeed technical advances for the platforms. It’s a media event for the public.

As for Apple Intelligence, the AVP is already pushing the boundaries of its hardware capabilities even with the R1 doing some serious heavy lifting of sensor fusion.

It’s going to come, but not until there’s a hardware refresh.

Maybe…but I note that on the Apple.com page where they discuss Apple Intelligence, one of the footnotes says:

  • Some features, additional languages, and platforms will be coming over the course of the next year.
So, what other platforms would they be referring to? They already mentioned it will be compatible with iPhone, iPad and Mac. Seems to me that AVP is the only possible platform they can be referring to.

Probably the Watch, the TV, etc?

But if they can run it on the watch and tv (which I doubt) they could certainly run it on the AVP
The AVP has absolutely no overhead available to it. It's hardware is maxxed out with the constant incredible amount of computation its doing in real time, at all times. I would genuinely be shocked if Apple Intelligence came to it before a spec bump.

I’d be bummed. But I hold out some hope ;)

Well the beauty of the apple ecosystem is there is a bunch of hardware that all works together. So if the macbook is already doing the heavy lifting of the virtual display, who's to say that something for Apple Intelligence isn't in the works.

My money is a spec bump to the M3 or M4 and a new R2 chip in the not too distant future though.

I was wondering about this; for example, with the HomePod Mini which clearly doesn’t have the capabilities to run this on-device. Perhaps if you have an iPhone with you, the HomePod can use it to solve the query and Siri can just respond on the HomePod.

So an upgrade to an M4 and R1 (or R2) on 3nm would help improve performance and efficiency - that would be a great spec bump, especially at $2995 with generous trade-ins.

I do think we'll get at least an improved series for stuff that can talk to the cloud

Considering Apple Intelligence is not coming to the iOS, iPadOS or MacOS betas until the summer and there’s evidence to suggest that early on their may even be a beta waiting list I’m sure it’ll come to visionOS sooner or later but I’d think the focus would be on getting spatial versions of more of Apple’s own apps out there before they worry about adding Apple Intelligence to the mix. Just a SWAG on that one though (Scientific Wild A$$ Guess) ;).

LOL. No, AVP is not maxing out all cores at all times. That’s just inane.

Yes there is headroom. No, the “AI” doesn’t run all the time. Open Notes and try the new Math Sheet to see apple’s AI running on device now.

Also considering that so far Apple Intelligence has only been announced for US English, I wonder if their priority for Apple intelligence is on rolling it out worldwide first rather than working on Vision Pro integration.
