No audible alert on low battery?

Hi guys!

Whenever the battery is running low, the notification pops up on screen at 20%, 10% battery power remaining. However, it is strange that there is no sound, at least on my iPhone 3G (2.2.1).

What seems even more surprising to me -- there is such low_power.caf file in System\Library\Audio\UISounds directory, which should expectidly be played when battery goes low, but it is not :confused:

Anybody knows why? Is it possible to make it sound so that I do not miss when I need to plug my iPone to charge?

Ok, I know it may sound stupid or useless to cover this but I feel it is necessary before we go into "larger" and more sophisticated solutions. Make sure your iPhone's Ringer is all the way up or at least to a volume that you will be able to hear it. And also make sure you have the Ringer on by having NO red dot showing on the Vibrate/Ring Switch.

If the above is all correct and doesn't help then read on. It sounds like you are jailbroken. If you are then what apps, tweaks, themes, etc. have you downloaded? Something from Cydia or Installer may have caused this.

Well, indeed, my iPhone is jailbroken and I have Winterboard installed, plus a very few themes, which actually do not contain low-batery.caf file. How could I find out where the problem is?

And yes, my ringer is on and I am getting all other audible alerts except the low battery sound.

Well, this thread is a surprise to me because I do not get any low-battery sounds either, and I didn't know these sounds existed. I have a 2G iphone that is not jailbroken. Like the OP I also get the 20% and 10% visual alerts for low battery but there is no accompanying sound. I get all the sounds specified in the Settings, but I find no sound listed for low-battery alerts :confused:
 
OK then, may I ask you folks if anyone has ever heard beep sound on your iPgone 3G (2.2.1) when the battery level goes down below 20%, 10%? In partucular, does it give you audible alert when in sleep mode?

As for myself, I don't remember hearing audible alert in previous iPhone OS versions, neither when my iPhone was not jailbroken yet.

I have not heard the alert but I am on 2.2 so I didn't say anything.:rolleyes:

Hmmm, I am beginning to believe that there is nothing wrong with my iPhone. However, it is rather strange that there are so few complaints on the Internet regarding this matter. Nobody needs to be reminded when they should consider pluging their device to charge before it is dead in silence???

I have never heard a low battery alert.

My guess is that the sound file exists on the iphone but is not implemented in the current software version.
 
I've heard the sound only when I'm talking to someone and it alerts me when my battery gets to 20 and 10 percent.

Add me to the list of people that have never heard these alerts.

I wasn't even aware there was supposed to be one. There is an audible alert if you are on a phone call. Perhaps that is what the sound file is for??

Maybe one of you guys with SSH can copy the file to your computer and play it. See if it matches the sound you hear when you're in a call.

Thank for your comments, guys. I am confident now that this is meant to be so and my iPhone is not faulty. I am pretty sure that the sound I mentioned in my first post is used to alert only during a phone call.

Anyway, it is a little strange, don't you think? So far it is not a very big problem for me because I put my hands on this nice device quite often, so I can see when I need to charge it. However, I was a little disappointed when my iPhone died overnight and my Alarm Clock did not ring in the morning, which resulted in being late at work :)
 
lol, do you really want o hear that sound? I mean if you do hear it, what are you going to do? can't switch the battery.

Restore your phone, it should fix the problem or do cold reset.

Weird question. I know I can't change the battery, but I can plug the iPhone in to get the battery charged before it is dead. At least there could be an option to enable/disable such audible alert.
