Hi guys,

Have a 2009 mac pro quad 2.66, just added a spare video card (6870) that I had laying around to see the performance vs the standard GT120. Btw, the nvidia is in the bottom slot, and I've moved the Gt120 to the slot above it.

I had audio before, and now I don't have any audio output. And in the system profiler under audio (built in) says intel high def audio audio ID : 0

There is speaker icon in the tool bar, and the volume controls work.

Any ideas?

thanks

Do you get audio through headphones plugged in to the front headphone jack?
Or, headphones connected to the rear line out?

Have you tried a PRAM reset?

If those don't change anything, did you disturb any other hardware, except for the graphics cards? Check for loose cables, connectors inside, anyway.
Did you reset the graphics cards to original positions? (Original card in original position?)
It should run automatically, but you could also try (with the graphics cards where you want them) open the System folder/Library, then the CoreServices folder, and find and run the Expansion Slot Utility, to see if that recommends any changes to your card installation.

PRAM reset, no change.
Swapped card position, no change (and now no audio adjustment/speaker is grey)
Tried the expansion slot utility, oddly says cannot run on my Mac Pro 4,1 system?
Removed the nvidia 6870 card, audio now back. HMM, very odd.
This is connected via DVI, I'll try the display port once I get the cable.

Thanks for the suggestions!
