No audio exporting iMovie 09

I am running MacBook 2008 and iMovie 09.

I can't upgrade IMovie to higher version due to hardware limitations.

I shot video using GoPro in HD format. I created a Project in iMovie and tried to export it in HD format. As a result the movie does not have a sound. I tried export the same Project in Large format and I have no problem with sound.

My question: how could I export a Project in HD and still preserve the sound?
