No auto password filing...

Why is Apple constantly making there customers angry on purpose?
Why they removed the password auto fill?
Now if have to click multiple times at the screen to access a website how is requiring a password? Why they don't let us the customer decide what they want to use?

Slowly the move to Android is more and more tempting for me!

This is a security feature done to prevent third parties from viewing your login credentials via their resources the websites you're visiting use.

Here is an article I found from a quick search. It is something all major browsers (including Chrome) are likely to implement to protect your credentials.

In Safari under iOS, the only additional step you really need to do is tap the username or password field and then choose the credential you wish to insert.

Before 11.3 I opened the site. Password was filled after face id and i hit login.
But now I have to tap the password line. Tap passwords. Select the password. Wait for face id. Finally Login.

Is there a way to whitelist websites for this or enable back the feature?
 
It's nice being able to choose which information to use instead of it sometimes autofilling incorrect information.
 
But because it’s Apple we have no choice... Maybe my next phone will be not a iPhone. Android is in a much better shape than 7 years ago when I had my last android device.
The build quality and software are much better now and the eco system too.
 
Man, I was coming here to see if there was a work around for this as well. Hopefully, in the near future we will be able to whitelist sites we trust and can have everything auto filled like it used to be.

Makes zero sense.

If the user is going to enter the credentials at some point, there isn't anything being hidden from the website.

Also, if a user has stored credentials for a website that requires those credentials, the website already has the credentials stored in its server.

And finally, if a website wanted to force a user's credentials to auto populate it could easily do that through cookies or local storage.

The change accomplishes nothing other than create friction when trying to log in.

While it’s an additional (albeit small) step, if it’s done in the name of customer security I can definitely forgive Apple for it :)

As weird as it might sound, on some websites it’s actually improved my log in experience :confused:

For example, on my student loan website I used to have to do the following on iOS 11.2.6:
  1. Username already filled in, so press “next”
  2. Next screen missing password, so click on password field
  3. Click the key icon on the top right of the keyboard to pull up iCloud Keychain
  4. Click on the search field in iCloud keychain
  5. Type the name of the website in iCloud Keychain search field
  6. Select the password to be filled in on the website
  7. Click “next” (now that password is now filled in) to log in
Now on 11.3 I simply:
  1. Tap the username field
  2. Click the password at the top of the keyboard
  3. Click next (to load next screen)
  4. Tap the password field
  5. Click the password at the top of the keyboard
  6. Click next to log in

This would be fine if it worked on my iPad (it doesn’t) but it does work on my iPhone
 
I love the MacRumors community. Apple fixes a security flaw and people bring out the pitchforks and torches.

Let me set up a quick form for you all to visit and you can give me all of your auto fill information 1) without your interaction (because I’ve hidden it), and 2) without you clicking a single button on the page. o_O

It doesn’t work for me. When I tap the user name and password fields it doesn’t bring up any other choice but Paste, and that will be the last one I copied since this change, not the one I’m trying to access, so I’m having to put in everything manually. Goodbye keychain. Another Apple feature that no longer works.

I spent an hour on the phone with Apple, no mention of what you’re describing here. 3 hours on the phone with Apple regarding important things on my MacBook Pro that no longer work after the last update there too.

Pretty fed up. The only solution is to only update when the software is in its last phase before a new system comes out.

Not sure what is and isn’t working for you. You mention “paste” coming up. Are you right clicking in the form field for some reason?

For every website I visit this new security implementation works perfectly, from iOS to macOS. There is either a small key in the field, or it pops up on the autocomplete text bar in iOS.

Are you sure you’re on version 11.3?

I don’t get this, on my iPads, all I get is an option to Paste.

What about these two items:

Safari preferences:

Make sure safari is set as I have it, and that safari is turned on in accounts and passwords.
