I picked up a new iphone 3gs the other day and i just now realized that it never came with the black cloth unlike the 3g. Or did I just not get one?

I prefer to say it's Less resistive rather than resistant, as fingerprints are still possible.

Not really. Oleophobic coatings are done by applying a polymer, a plastic that human skin oil won't attach to. So while there will be a tiny bit of oil transfer, there won't be visible fingerprints that the naked eye can see.

Oleophobic = less fingerprints, more scratches. In my case at least.

No more cleaning cloth. Apple is giving away less stuff with each change.

Look at the iBook mine came with a VGA connection, the Macbook came with a remote, the first iPod came with 100 things, the iPod video had a sleeve and the first iPhone had the dock and a screen cloth. I guess the more they sell, the less they include.

I think resistant is the word that describes what you are talking about. Saying that it is finger print proof would be overkill. Like water resistant and water proof.

Its any iPhone I think.

I bought a 3G instead of the 3gs (didn't want the extra features and couldn't justify the cost 8GB for ME is more than enough) It's already have 3.0 OS on it and the box showed the features that came with 3.0 (voice recorder) no cloth at all.

It would appear you don't have one. You can still see fingerprints, just not as bad and they wipe of easier.

Wait till you use it a while longer and you notice more and more fingerprints. The coating is not designed to be permanent. The owners manual states it will eventually wear off. On my original iPhone 3GS that I returned a few weeks ago, the fingerprints were just as bad as my original iPhone.

I guess I have superhuman eye-sight then.
Which is funny, because I wear glasses.
Hmm, wait, I can see them even with my glasses off.

With 1st-gen jitters, comes 1st-gen goodies.

First run Apple products always come souped up - later revisions are always ghetto'd up.

That's true. My first iPod came with those little black pads to slip over the earphones. You can get them at Radio Shack still but iPods used to come with them in a little foil package, two sets of them in fact.

Man ... the 1st gen iPods had ear bud covers, remote controls, docks, that HUGE BOX  - they had all kinds of cool stuff.
