No bloom effect in AOE III on 24" iMac Alu?

I downloaded the AOE III demo recently and have been playing it on my 24" Aluminium iMac. The game is great, but it seems like the bloom effect is disabled, reguardless of whether I enable or disable it in the settings. It's enabled by default, so I assume that the game detected that the video card can do the effect. Has anyone else been able to use the bloom effect in AOE III (demo or full version) on an Al iMac? I'm running 10.5.1
