no bluetooth for phone calls

iPhone 8 with new ios12 installed

bluetooth works for all apps EXCEPT the phone...when calling or answering the bluetooth icon disappears and the phone only provides standard or speaker function NO WIRELESS BLUETOOTH when using phone

this makes the phone USELESS

There is something wrong with your phone/Bluetooth connection. I suggest you forget the device and re-pair it, if you haven’t already, as well as check to make sure that your Bluetooth device doesn’t have an update.

I had the exact same issue and my interactive mode on my screen does not work
