No Bluetooth in Vista using Alum MacBook

I have been having some Bluetooth issues in my Vista setup using Boot Camp. Originally the Bluetooth Manager was seeing my mouse (Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000) but it would alternate between CONNECT and NOT CONNECTED. But the mouse pointer was not responsive for the few seconds at a time that it'd say connected. I then install the IntelliPoint software, then the Bluetooth manager in Vista sees my mouse with a name that appears to be a network MAC address. I uninstalled the IntelliPoint software. But now Vista doesn't see anything when it searches for a device.

It works great in OSX. Go figure, a Microsoft branded mouse works more easily in Mac OSX than their own OS.

you shouldn't have ruined your Mac by putting Vista on it then

I tried the same mouse on a Toshiba Tecra that is running the same version of Vista and it functions normally. To have Bluetooth on the Tecra it required a Bluetooth dongle but the same dongle plugged into my MacBook does nothing for me. Vista makes a sound when the dongle is inserted and removed but never asks anything about installing any drivers or any acknowledgment of what I just plugged in. grrrr

Stupid question, did you install the Apple Software for Boot Camp when you installed Vista, then did you upgrade to Boot Camp 2.1?

Yes, I installed the Apple drivers from the Leopard disks and that allowed me to have networking, right clicking on the trackpad, etc...... The 2.1 update came out back in April or so right? I would have had it before I installed Vista which would have been a couple of weeks ago.

Not sure I understand this. Yes the 2.1 update has been out awhile but what does the bold mean? The Leopard disk also contains the drivers for the Bluetooth, there could be something wrong with the drivers. you can try to uninstall the Boot Camp drivers from the control panel and re-install them from the Leopard disk.

I guess I was trying to say that I didn't know for certain when I would have updated to 2.1, I was assuming it was already version 2.1 out of the box since it's one of the Aluminum MacBooks and I ran system update as soon as I booted up OSX for the first time and that I installed just a couple weeks ago which was a while after I bought this machine.

Would this have made a difference when I installed the Boot Camp drivers: Bluetooth inside of OSX would have been turned off, I wouldn't think Bluetooth being on or off inside of OSX would have any effect on Vista in Bootcamp but who knows, computers do weird stuff sometimes.

Thanks for clarifying. I don't have a new MBP yet What you do in OSX will have no effect in the Boot Camp partition, they are completely separate. Try deleting the pairing between Vista and your BT mouse then re-pair. If that doesn't work, un-install the BC drivers and re-install from Leopard DVD, once that is done right click on the tray icon or go into Control Panel and check what version the BC drivers are, if it is 2.0 upgrade to 2.1 from the Apple site (This is done in the Vista side for the Bootcamp drivers, not OSX). If after all that and you still have issues then I'm not sure what to do

If go to an Apple Store and talk to a "Genius" do you think they'd be of any help? I've never had to deal with them before. If Apple is going to offer the Genius service, may as well take advantage of it. It hurts my "PC Ego" as I've always done my own troubleshooting over the years when building PCs.

Don't know if they would help. Seeing how you have no issues with the BT in the OSX side you only have issues in the Vista side. They may tell you to call Microsoft. It's one of those catch 22 type deals. You have an Apple product but you are running Windows. Kinda stuck in the middle there, Apple may say talk to Microsoft and M$ will DEFIANTLY tell you that it's Apple's problem.
