AHHHHHH apple what have you done!!!

Without a doubt I would not buy the Ipad now.

IF it had a camera and you could use it has a phone then I would be lining up.

Video calling/conferencing would be great o this

Then I would see the point of it.

I video chat on gmail just about everyday with my partner and quite a bit with my mom in San Diego. It's not a deal breaker for me but I would love to have one.

I'm with you however, I also want USB and flash capability since all of my family is on facebook. Then I would be standing in line.

I've barely used the camera on my iPhone, despite before buying it thinking I would absolutely need it.

I'll be happy enough to have the 3rd Gen iPad with a pair of cameras, once the 4G network is up and running for real mobile video conferencing.

I was one of the ones initially questioning wth was Apple thinking not putting a camera in this thing. It may be space constraints, especially when you look at the location of the antenna in the 3g model. Either way, it was an extreme disappointment for me.

Then.....I thought about the amount of times I ACTUALLY video-chatted on my MBP, in the last 2 years, and I didn't even use all the fingers on one hand. I would suspect there's a lot more people like me out there. It sounds great in theory and is a great novelty that you try out when you first get it, but in actual usage--how prevalent is it?

It reminds me of the constant outcry of the iPhone not having a front-facing camera for video-chat. There's been phones on the market, particularly overseas, that have had this functionality for near a decade. Mobile providers over there would tell you however that the usage of persons for that particular feature is virtually nil. The iPad camera debacle is the new copy and paste. Unforgivable for us geeks, but barely a concern for the vast majority of the buying public. Especially once the novelty of it wears off. Just imo

The thing is, SJ can not figure out whether to put a camera in the front or back, so he came up to make it external by usb

I wonder how many people actually use the camera on their iPhone or iSight on their Mac. I can never think of a time I used my iSight for something (rather than just playing around with it when I first got my macbook) and I don't have an iPhone but I do have a camera phone and I think I've taken 5 pictures if that. For me, and camera is pretty much the least of my worries.

For video calls.

Makes no sense on a tiny phone screen.

Makes perfect sense on something like the ipad

I guess a camera would be nice for iChat or Skype. I already have some problems with both over a extremely fast wired connection on my new MBP! I think that Apple decided to leave it out because it probably wouldn't work well (on WiFi), and work terribly on AT&T. If there is a problem with it over 3G, the average costumer would automatically blame Apple for building a "bad device", if that were the case.

I use the camera on my iPhone a lot as well as the video mode. Its very convenient. I also use the iSight on my MBP and my iMac with skype to see my daughters and grandchildren. Its a great way to keep in touch with family and friends. It makes you feel that you are with them. I would love to see this feature on the iPad.
