There are no contacts on my iPod. When I go into "Contacts" it's completely empty.

I have a 20gb click-wheel iPod. I have run iPod Updater 2005-02-22 and my iBook is running Tiger.

I have checked the "Sychronize Address Book Contacts" check box in the iPod options tab in iTunes. I have the "Synchronize All Contacts" radio button selected (but I've tried doing groups only too). I had some Japanese characters in one or two of my entries which always used to display fine but I took them out just in case but it made no difference.

I'm an experienced mac user but I'm pretty baffled here. The only thing I can think of is a corrupt Address Book Library. I've tried backing it up and reloading it but it hasn't made any difference.

Does anyone have any ideas? I don't really want to do a restore because I have stuff on the hard drive that I'd have to move off.

i've been having the same problem with my 60gb photo. What I noticed though is in the ipod preferences pane, objects appear in both "photos" to sync and "calendars" to sync. Both of these sync perfectly. But in the "contacts" pane, there are no items. Nevertheless, i have "automatically sync all" selected, and nothing. Is it the same for you?

Yeah, it's the same, except I have one group in my Address Book, which does appear -- See, pic. As I said in the original post, I've tried selecting this but to no effect.

with my ipod mini i inputted my manually: export ur contacts into vcard format (click and drag onto the desktop from address book) and then open up your ipod folder and then place them in the contacts folder

an update

I tried manually exporting from Address Book and that worked but being a perfectionist it just wasn't good enough -- and invariably it's the few records that you've just modified or added that you're not gonna have on your iPod when you want them.

So in the end I reset the machine and copied everything back onto it. Now the synch works fine.

You're lucky.... reformatting my ipod doesn't do it for me... I think there's something wrong with the address book file, seeing that no groups will show up in iTunes. Bah humbug.

Sync Problem: iTunes 4.9 Contacts iPod Photo

I've been experiencing a similar problem to the one posted here. When I try to sync my contacts from iTunes, I get about half of my contacts on the iPod, and over 300 disappear. I know there's a limit of 1000, but my Address book contains about 650, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I've checked to see if it's only certain groups, contacts marked as "business", but it appears to be random.

If I export my contacts from Address Book, then manually copy them onto the iPod and call the file "iSync.vcf", I get all my contacts, but synching again causes the 300+ entries to vanish.

I've tried resetting the iPod, and no help. I'm thinking maybe it's to do with Address book?

Same problem - contact 'groups' don't appear in iTunes/iSync

I have experienced the same problem as detailed above. My iCal info syncs properly, but under the 'synchronize address book contacts', none of my 'groups' are listed in the box below.

ALSO, the same is true for syncing my PalmOS PDA with iSync (using 'Missing Link' from MarkSpace software). The ical stuff syncs fine, but the address 'groups' are also not listed.

The symptoms are the same with both iTunes and iSync (PalmOS). Therefore, I agree with the above person that the error is related to the address book or the way in which iSync/iTunes accesses the address book.

ONE LAST NOTE HOWEVER- I have used Automator, and when I try to use address book scripts, the address book 'groups' ARE available when building scripts such as 'select all people from group named [fill in group name].'

The problem doesn't occur in Panther, only Tiger. I tried to upgrade to Tiger, then tried an 'archive and install' option, and finally a 'new install' (wipe harddrive, etc.).

SO, what we are experiencing is clearly not a unique problem- hopefully someone who knows the 'inner workings' of Tiger (hint: Apple) will fix this bug!

Tiger, Mac Mini

I just tried synging my new k700i with isync... calendars worked fine, but NO contacts. What the heck! Same problem as the above poster, as well as with the ipods.

Hope 10.4.2 fixes this.

Bug

I have the same problem... I go to sync address book in the itunes prefs and it says I dont have any lists. Same as with calendars. I think either iTunes 4.9, OS 10.4.2, or iSync 2.1 caused this bug. I'm thinking iTunes 4.9 since it stopped after that came out. Has anyone got it to work USING 4.9?
