So I was planning on getting an iPod touch today, and expecting GPS and video. I got neither, and am fed up with the new model. So I was wondering, how cheap can I get a 32GB 3GS with no contract? Is there a cheap place to buy them, or how much would signing up with AT&T and then canceling cost? I use Verizon and will never touch AT&T, so I don't care what AT&T thinks of me. I just don't want to do something illegal.

I want a 32GB for $400 w/ no contract. Is this possible (or even close)?

Thanks for any help!

not possible for 400,

phone is 299
etf 175
activation 36
+ first months

or..

699 retail

I'm lol'ing right now at people expecting the new ipod touch to be the second coming of Jesus Christ with "ZOMG 3G/UMTS, GPS, VIDEO CAMCORDER, ETC ETC" pretty much wanting an iphone.....64gb's is allot for the ipod touch though, seams pretty good.

That looks to me like $500, not $700. That's not as bad.

plus first month so thats an extra 65-75. So its about 575, not 700 but also not 400.... plus tax on the phone.. depending on where you are located, your tax might be off the full 700 or the 299 of the phone. its its off the 700 then with the phone, ETF, activation and first month you'll be just under 650

All I want is an iPhone without the phone. Meaning I don't want an iPhone. 32GB is all I need.

Yeah I know I was reffering to all the guys in the iPod touch section speculating about the new features of the next iPod touch. There probably pissed...but yeah go for it. If you ever want to try T-Mobile later you can expect to pay $40-50 if you unlock it (Or any GSM carrier in your area operating on atleast one of the handsets frequency's)

What? Ok what exactly do you want now.

the iPhone OS and app store, GPS, a video camera, WiFi, no contract, 3G, or phone, 32GB capacity, and a total cost after CA tax under $450.

I don't think I'm being too cheap ($150 more than the iPod touch 32GB just for GPS and a video camera is pretty good) or too demanding, but it sure seems like Apple can't deliver.

I have a simple phone already on Verizon than costs $10/month on top of my parents' plan, that works. I need no more.

How would you plan on getting GPS for the touch? If there is no internet connection via edge or 3g, you won't be able to get a gps signal....

The same way regular GPS devices like TomTom does it. A GPS receiver with preloaded maps.

Something that would have probably cost Apple $5 to include.

Well, it looks like the 32GB iPhone w/ no contract would be WAY too expensive for me. Guess I'll have to decide between picking up a 2G iPod touch on the cheap, or else waiting another year. :(

Why don't you just get the 16GB? You don't need that much music, video, etc with you all the time.

Tom Tom is coming out with an accessory that has GPS built into it that works for the iPod touch. So technically, you could buy the Tom Tom app and the GPS dock from Tom Tom.

yeah. thats cool if you want to spend an extar 150 on top of what your allready paying

You know the iPhone's GPS signal is cellular assisted so without a cell signal your talking about 30 minute wait for it to figure out where the hell you are. Even with preloaded maps its going to be a while, best bet is the tomtom app but I doubt you'll get good speeds.

$400!!?? Are you CRAAAZYY!!??

if one could get the 3GS for $400, no one would buy it from AT&T!

AT&T Cost (32 GB 3GS) = $299
+ 30 monthly for internet X 24 months = $720
(is there's anything else att bill to us iPhone users?)
So we and up paying $1000 for a 32GB 3GS on AT&T!!

Insane!! I knoww!!:D

and sorry about the "Are you CRAAAZYY!!??" thing, i know everone answer your question already, i just needed to say that! hehehe
Good luck!

The iPhone 3GS costs $699 without a contract. Period. If you don't want to get a 2 year contract with data from AT&T, you have to pay $699 + tax. Why is that so hard to understand?

That's not what he was saying. He was saying that you can either go through all that crap to get the phone at that price..... or, just pay full retail at $699.

Ok....so buy something else. You also realize that it's not as simple as just throwing in a camera an a GPS chip.

I am not in the market for the iPod touch, but it is kind of weird that it doesn't get a camera. The whole keeping the price down thing seems ind of garbage to me. Is the nano more money because it has a phone?

I think that they just didn't want to do it.

Steve Jobs responded to this.

The iPod Touch is being marketed as a gaming machine and they were trying to keep the costs down as much as possible to be competitive hence no camera, etc.

The NANO is not a gaming machine at all - so given Jobs' response, it makes sense to put the camera in the next device in the line
