My dashboard animations do not occur; I do not get the ripple animation when I drop a widget on the screen. My computer is supposed to be Quartz Extreme compatible. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX with 32mb. Why are the animations not occurring?

You won't get ripples with that video chip. It's Core Image GPU support, not Quartz Extreme, that determines if the ripples will show.

Yeah, Mac minis don't support it, steve jobs even said that in his keynote when he released them.
