No/delayed new email notification chime - 11.2.3

I'm on 11.2.3 with an M1 MBA.

Since updating to 11.2.3, if I receive a new email in the Mail app, I either don't get the new mail notification sound for around a minute or longer - even after I've read the email - or the sound doesn't happen at all. Normally the sound obviously happens the moment you receive a new email and coincides with the red circle notification symbol on the app - I still get the red circle notification just not the sound for a long time. Sometimes as long as 5 minutes.

Anyone else had this?

I've had this issue for years with macOS. 50% of the time I do not get the new mail sound.

On my MacBook (2017) and M1 MBA (both with 11.3.1, I am not getting any new mail sound although I do get the mail send swoosh.
