Hi, I think something has gone wrong with my Mojave 10.14.1 update. It's on a 5,1 with bootROM 140.0.0.0.0 and an MSI RX560 and a SATA SSD. The display is connected via HDMI.

I first ran the full installer to update the bootROM from 138 to 140, and that was successful. Then, I ran the 10.14.1 updater (not the full install). I'm not sure what happened because I left the room for awhile, but it has been about 30 minutes now with a black screen and nothing seems to be happening.

Do OS updates with a non EFI video card show their progress? I'm not sure if I should be more patient or force a reboot.
[doublepost=1543186022][/doublepost]Shoot, something definitely went wrong. Pressing the power button immediately powers off the computer -- I'm pretty sure it needs to be held down for a few seconds once the OS has loaded.

How do you guys troubleshoot boot issues with a 3rd party video card installed? I'll put the original card back in, but Mojave won't boot with it installed.

i have a similar problem. win10, 13.4 and 14 are installed on separate disks. i use the gt120 to use the boot screen, but if it is connected [to the board] i can't load mojave [it wants all metal cards]. all systems will work with the rx580, but no boot sccreens...

soooo, to get from win10 to mojave i have to install the gt120 boot into 13.4, set start up disk to mojave, power down, uninstall the card then boot... every... damn... time... but going to win is easy. just set the start disk to windows and it boots no problem.

No, NO, NO!!

You don't need any boot screens, nor change video cards, to switch between Win 10, High Sierra (HS), and Mojave. Just use the RX-580 and ditch the GT-120. You can always use PRAM reset to boot back from Windows to OS X, but that is a waste of time (not nearly as much as what you are doing however). A much better way to reboot from Win 10 to Mojave or HS is to just install the Bootcamp Control panel from Bootcamp 6.1 for the iMac Pro in Win 10. The instructions are linked in the cMP Upgrade Guide Sticky at the top of the Mac Pro page, but it links here:

You can use the Startup Disk preference to boot to Windows, but it is easier to use a bless script from HS or Mojave menu bar to boot to Win 10 (or HS, or Mojave) so you don't have to enter your password all the time to do it, or you can use one of the apps that are designed to do it (although I think they all require you to enter a password each time too).
