I have an iPhone 13 running iOS 17.6. I have looked online EVERYWHERE, and no suggestions I've found have fixed this problem. I've rebooted the phone, checked the volume, changed the sound, checked that all of the Notification and Alert settings were set up correctly - even the Custom Notifications for Mail, and absolutely NOTHING works. I don't want to do a factory reset - that's just not worth the hassle to me, and doing that wouldn't guarantee a fix after going through all of that. It's annoying and frustrating when you're waiting for a time sensitive email to arrive, and you have to constantly check your screen for it's arrival, instead of being able to hear the "Ding".

If anyone else is aware of this or has the real solution to it, please help!!!!

Could you try updating to iOS 17.6.1? Apparently it is a bug-fix release…

Quit Apple Mail. Go to Settings>Mail>Notifications. Set Sounds to »None«, then deactivate and reactivate notifications and set Sounds to whatever you want to hear. Restart Apple Mail. iOS/iPadOS 17.6.1

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this didn’t work either I’m afraid. Ugh.
