I am unable to pinch and zoom on Facebook's site using the iPad. I've seen a discussion on Apple's site with the same trouble. Some are saying the problem is in the code of the site. All other sites still work. Anyone else having trouble?

If Facebook disabled zoom for their site, then you will not be able to zoom. It is part of the site's HTML.

I noticed this too and wasnt sure if it was the latest beta 3 IOS but was sure it was working a few days ago.

Its a bit of a pain, wonder why they have done it?

Just tested. I can't do it anymore either. WEEEEIRD!!! Why would they do this. Curious.

If you visit Facebook on iPad you'll notice you can't pinch and zoom anymore. It's because when Facebook detects the iPad user agent, they load this line of code in the meta tag:

Code:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0; user-scalable=0;" />
user-scalable=0 is what causes the zooming to be disabled. The only workaround is to use a 3rd party browser like Atomic Browser and change the user agent to something else like desktop Safari.

People on Twitter and on Apple discussions have gotten wind of this. It's really annoying and making Facebook kind of unusable on the iPad :mad:

Apple - Support - Discussions - Can't zoom in when viewing any page ...

not only is it locked, but its locked in landscape, so basically Facebook says use our site on an ipad in landscape or get lost

Why would they do this?? I agree, it makes the site a pain in the eyes to use! Only thing I can think of is that maybe they're finally putting out an app and they want to discourage users from the web version?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

This is pretty annoying... I don't see any benefit.
