I know this has probably been addressed somewhere but...

I thought I read somewhere that we would be FaceTime without being connected to 3G and WiFi at the same time.

I thought that Facetime over 3g was one of the new features of IOS5 or am I remembering that wrong? Probably AT&T blocking it.

I am sure I read it somewhere in the pre-release notes but it's sure not happening. Also, I used to get an error message that saying I need to connect to WiFi but that is no longer happening.

I'm pretty sure that it is an iOS5 feature, but is only supported on a carrier-by-carrier basis. I'm guessing that our generally hateful US carriers are not going to stand for it.

I believe it's still wifi only, and yes, I'm sure it's the carriers that are blocking it.

In addition to Skype, Tango offers free video calls over 3G. Haven't tried it yet so I can't vouch for the quality.

I believe -- but can't back this up -- but iOS5 makes FaceTime over 3G POSSIBLE, but it's up to the carriers to enable it.

I remember hearing it too, like everyone else said. I'm assuming it's a carrier choice only, which makes no sense since I have a 4GB data plan with tethering.
