My iPhone has a known issue with the battery based on Apple diagnostics, and when I go to make an appointment, Wednesday September 9th isn't an option in ANY of the stores? My husband reminded me that is the day of their launch event - are there NO appointments or service being done in any of the store that day? I just don't understand the logic of not allowing customers to schedule service appointments.................

I expect that means that Apple will have new products in the stores, ready for sale on that day.
I guess you have never been around an Apple store on "first day" :D
You would likely want to find another day for a routine appointment.

That's what I was thinking... my husband was like "oh you could probably just walk-in and get seen, you could try it" and I was thinking mmmmmm it seems like there might be something going on there that would make that a bad idea.... Thanks!

The 6s won't be available for sale tomorrow. It's just the announcement.

It could be that all the appointments for tomorrow are booked at your store. I know my local store has been pretty busy. I've been trying to get in for my iPhone 5 battery too. I walked in last Wednesday and they didn't have anything available.
